Frequently Asked Questions
Stinger:
A short sound piece, lasting between 2 and 10 seconds, used to identify brands, shows, stations or audiovisual content. It works as a sonic signature, which can include sound effects, a brief musical phrase or a signature line.
Soundtrack:
A more elaborate musical composition, custom-created to accompany corporate videos, advertising campaigns, series and audiovisual productions. It reinforces the pacing, emotion and narrative of the piece, and can run the full length of the video.
In practice, the stinger marks and identifies the brand in a few seconds; the soundtrack accompanies and moves the audience throughout the entire production.
1 – Briefing
We get to know the video, campaign or project: goal, audience, length and style references.
2 – Composition
We create the melody, arrangement and sonic atmosphere that fit the concept, whether it’s a short stinger or a full soundtrack.
3 – Production
Recording of instruments, programming and professional mixing, syncing the audio to the video’s key moments.
4 – Delivery
Finalized, synchronized file, ready for use in video, TV, radio or internet.
The soundtrack or stinger is a musical creation developed specifically for the client’s video or campaign. Once delivered, the client can use it freely in the piece it was created for.
If the production keeps running in subsequent years, only a usage renewal fee is charged, corresponding to a percentage of the original value.
This renewal exists because the composition involves the composer’s authorial work and, in some cases, guest musicians. For market ethics reasons, while the soundtrack is in use it cannot be licensed to productions by competing companies in the same segment.
This way, the renewal guarantees continued use of the piece and respects the work of the professionals involved in the composition.
The timeline depends on the piece’s complexity and length. Stingers, being shorter (2 to 10 seconds), are usually ready within a few days. Full soundtracks for corporate videos, campaigns or series can take one to three weeks, including composition, recording, arrangement and mixing, depending on the video’s length and the number of instruments involved.
In Brazil, musical works are protected by the Copyright Law (Law 9.610/98), which recognizes creations of the human spirit as protected works, including musical compositions with or without lyrics.
When a soundtrack, stinger or song is created by a composer, the copyright and commercial rights are clearly defined and protected by law, providing legal security for anyone using the work in videos and campaigns.
In the case of AI-generated content, the situation is still a matter of legal debate in many countries. Since it isn’t a direct human creation, authorial protection and exclusivity of the work can be called into question.
Additionally, AI systems are trained on large musical databases, which can produce results similar to existing works or even to other companies’ productions.
For this reason, in professional video and advertising productions, musical creation by a composer remains the safest way to guarantee originality, exclusivity and legal protection of the work.
